Mombacho Cigars Announces Co-Founder Cam Heaps, New President
Co-Founder of Mombacho Cigars, Cameron Heaps, has been named President of the Nicaraguan boutique. From backpacker to building a steady reputation in the craft beer industry, Heaps stated, “It is an honor to be joining Claudio and the Mombacho family in Nicaragua. Their hard work, passion, and warm spirits have positioned us well for continued success and growth.”
Mombacho cigars begins humbly in colonial Granada, Nicaragua where two backpacking buddies, Cameron Heaps and Markus Raty, were smitten by a small, family cigar factory. After years of spending time at this little factory, a handshake and smoke atop the dormant volcano consummated the deal to open their own factory and in 2010, Mombacho was born. It’s not only a nice homage to the city, the people and the culture they grew to love, but also a tip of the cap to the lush, volcanic soils that make great cigars possible. The team would later be complete with the addition of master blender, Claudio Sgroi, a veteran of international cigar markets and Henki Kelner pupil.
“It’s great to have Cam now heading operations, and what a perfect way to celebrate our 15th year anniversary. Cam’s oversight has always been key in Mombacho’s business, but his deeper involvement will be crucial for taking Mombacho to the next level. As business partners and colleagues, we are excited for what the future holds for Mombacho.”–Claudio Sgroi, Mombacho Cigars Master Blender
