Alan Rubin’s boys are all grown up. In 2018, brothers Alec and Bradley Rubin broke out on their own and created their new brand, Alec & Bradley Cigars. The same year, the Rubin boys launched their first blend, the Nicaraguan-heavy Blind Faith. Their sophomore effort, Gatekeeper, with legendary Ernesto Perez-Carrillo lending a hand, arrived in 2019 and scored big with enthusiasts and critics alike, earning a respectable 91 rating from none other than Cigar Aficionado.

Kintsugi is the Japanese art of restoring broken ceramic objects by mending damaged pieces with lacquer mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. Philosophically, as in life imitating art, instead of an aesthetic cover-up, it represents the treatment of damage and repair as part of the object’s life. The second generation cigar makers state on their website that, “Cigars, like the gold lacquer, are a bonding agent- bringing people from all walks of life together.” – In Fumo Pax!
