La Flor Dominicana Reserva Especial Toro

Connecticut-wrapped cigars are not my favorite. Cigar makers think they can kick it up a notch to attract the medium-to-full crowd. And they too often fail, sometimes miserably.  LFD is well-known for their delicious, full-bodied ligero-heavy portfolio, but on occasion they craft an oscuro, a maduro and yes, a connie. The Reserva Especial is special because it is the very same “El Jocko” blend that put LFD on the map, and lips of LFD mavens everywhere, some 20 odd years ago.

Leave it to Litto Gomez to supercharge the connie. For the connie fans, don’t worry, you will enjoy the creamy smooth, nutty texture you know and love, but for the heavy hitters, you’ll enjoy a nice punch of earth, pepper and leather. The resulting complex blend is rich and satisfying from ignition to nub with a touch of honey and wood. I’m happy to say that LFD has made me a fan of the connie and it is one of an elite few I will even consider giving humidor space. – In Fumo Pax!
