Bite Size Review: Felix Assouline CSB Habano

Anyone who knows me knows my favorite cigars are either Habanos or Oscuros and I’ve smoked some of the best and most expensive non-Cubans out there. Only a few have truly distinguished themselves. Among them are those by Felix Assouline. Coming on the heels of his smokin’ Ego Red (a veritable ‘cigar of the year’), I knew his CSB Habano would be next. Made at the Omega Tobacos factory in Esteli, Nicaragua, CSB cigars are available in two delicious wrapper leaves: Ecuador Connecticut and Habano. Both configurations come in 5 vitolas from robusto to gordo. The hallmark of an Assouline stick is how smooth and rich they are.  And not just the initial third, we’re talking down to the crown. This is a full-strength cigar, but the flavor pallet, complexity and balance fool you into thinking its more medium-full. Oily and aromatic, from the first creamy, leathery draws to the red pepper and hints of cinnamon, the CSB Habano dances on your tongue like a cabaret star. The finish begins toasty and evolves to more of a coffee bean. As usual, the construction, combustion and presentation are superb. I am absolutely stupefied as to why the industry rags are not worshipping this guy. – In Fumo Pax!
