Bite Size Review: Quesada Oktoberfest

Manolo Quesada has been busy with his Quesada, Casa Magna and Fonseca cigar lines: a great variety of delicious cigars for any time, any place. In the meantime, he crafted a limited-release cigar back in 2011 to pair with beer, that has gained a loyal following – the Oktoberfest. Quesada’s intent here was not only to create a great beer-cigar, but a cigar to also serve as part of the celebratory experience. A cigar to smoke and enjoy, not analyze. Whether you’re in Munich, Germany or New Braunfels, Texas swilling pils, alt or the traditional Marzen-style beer, the Oktoberfest should be in your non-beer hand. Whether singing Ein Prosit, dancing, stumbling, or snuffing out a sausage or pretzel while ogling the beer wenches, the Oktoberfest will be your guide. It’s not gonna win any taste tests, industry accolades or big gaudy medals, but that was never Quesada’s motivation. I’ve developed quite a crush on this rare gem. The Uber is a hefty cigar (65 ring gauge), but hey, so are those pitcher-sized beer steins! With a slight sweetness, you’ll enjoy smooth, round flavors highlighted by earth, muted cloves and oats. The combustion is pretty good unless a spastic patron, spooked by a loud tuba blast, inadvertently splays their beer onto your stogie. It’s actually a great pairing with many beers in my opinion and also pairs well with just about any activity, all friends and well, just because you’d like to smoke a cigar intended just for celebrating. – In Fumo Pax!
