Bite Size Review: Punch Gran Puro

The second in a line of 3 beach smokes, I’ve been smoking Punch sticks off and on for the better part of 20 years, but never really looked beyond the traditional blend nor fully appreciated it. As I’m not a huge fan of fuller-bodied cigars, only recently have I begun to look into their other blends. One thing’s for sure though – consistency. This medium/full-bodied sun-grown girl from Honduras will not disappoint the palates of the traditional Punch faithful. With a #10 ribbon and 93 rating in 2016 from Cigar Aficionado, where could you go wrong? The Rancho (robusto) is the perfect size to enjoy this little number. Construction and balance is near perfect. With a nice girth, its so tight you could bounce a Kennedy half dollar off this thing. You’ll get a great draw with just a punch.

With a great price point, its no wonder Punch has earned its reputation for packing in the value and quality, making one of the old original Cuban brands an every man, every day cigar. She offers up an instant load of flavors dominated by a woody profile with notes of plums/raisins and leather and a spicy finish. She smokes stronger than she looks, at least to my palate. Nice, even slow burn but gets very cedary about midway, which is not a bad thing, but it does tend to assault. Goes great with a light ale! Highly recommend and will have to give her a try again! – In Fumo Pax!
